I started this piece wanting to write something fun in 6/8 that featured the low voices. As it progressed, I realized that the main melody was quite similar to J.S. Bach's theme from the Contrapunctus series of fugues. I decided to include it (in augmented form) at the end of the piece.

The percussion section (particularly the mallet parts) supplies some nice splashes of color, but don't let them overpower the ensemble. A Tarantella is a dance, and it is best kept light throughout.
